Beware of those Ready-to-eat emergency meal kits. They are designed to provide fast and easy access to food during short times of crisis. However, many of these meal kits contain high levels of chemicals and preservatives that can leave you feeling tired and low in energy when consumed regularly. Preservatives such as Sodium nitrate have been linked to an increased risk of cancer and can also cause fatigue and low energy levels.
Our tri-color quinoa is 100% organic and free from any harmful chemicals. Our quinoa is grown in nutrient-rich soil, free from pesticides and other harmful chemicals, ensuring that you get the highest quality product that will provide you with long-lasting energy to complete the day’s tasks.
Stovetop cooking
- In a fine mesh sieve, thoroughly rinse 1 cup of quinoa under cold water until the water runs clear.
- Place quinoa in a medium saucepan with 1 1/3 cup water or broth and bring to a fast simmer.
- Cover with a tight-fitting lid. Reduce heat to maintain a low simmer and cook for 17 minutes.
- Remove from heat, keep covered and steam for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork and serve.
Rice cooker
Quinoa can be prepared in a rice cooker following the same quinoa-to-water ratio as above. If the quinoa is too firm at the end of cooking, it may be necessary to add 1-2 Tbsp. liquid and cook longer.
Instant pot
- Rinse 1 cup quinoa in a sieve with cold water for 2 minutes, or until the water runs clear.
- Combine the rinsed quinoa and 1 cup and 2 Tbsp. water in an Instant Pot.
- Pressure-cook the quinoa mixture: Close the lid of the pressure cooker, set the valve to “Sealing,” and start the pressure cooker on “Low” for 5 minutes.
- Once completed, turn the Instant Pot off and carefully quick-release the remaining pressure.
Microwave
- You will need 1 cup of quinoa and 2 cups of cold water to cook quinoa in the microwave(1 cup uncooked quinoa yields about 2 ½ to 3 cups cooked quinoa.)
- rinse 1 cup of quinoa under cold water until the water runs clear.
- Place quinoa and water in a microwave safe bowl:Place them in a large bowl that would hold 3 cups of cooked quinoa in the end. If you prefer, you can also add in a pinch of salt, a splash of olive oil or a tablespoon of butter in there as well.
- Cover it with a plate: Place a microwave-safe dinner plate (large enough to cover the bowl fully) on top.
- Place in the microwave: Place it in the microwave and set it to cook for 6 minutes.
- Give it a stir and then cook some more: Carefully remove the plate (I used a kitchen towel because it is super hot) and give it a stir. Put the plate back on and set it to cook for 4 more minutes.
- Remove from the microwave: At the end of the 4 minutes, you might still have some liquid at the bottom of the bowl, which is okay. It should look like the quinoa seeds popped open. If there is still a lot of them that are not open, put it back in the microwave for 1 more minute.
- Let it rest until the water is absorbed: Let it sit on the kitchen counter for 5 minutes, covered. As it sits, most of the liquid will be absorbed. In the end, if there is still water in the bowl, remove the plate and wait for a few more minutes.
